Outside Quebec
Depending on their work experience or training, a number of options are available to candidates from outside of Québec wanting to join the construction industry and to holders of competency certificates issued by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) wanting to work outside Québec.
  • Working in Québec – candidates from outside the province

Workers residing elsewhere in Canada and immigrant workers may join the construction industry in Quebec via the usual means of access:

Outside of the usual means of access, there are also a program and agreements that make it possible to recognize qualifications to work in the construction industry in Québec. The agreements also provide that workers from Québec may work elsewhere in Canada or in France.

However, certain criteria must be met:

  • Recognition of training and work experience

If a candidate does not meet the criteria of the agreements or the program listed above, there are other ways to join a trade or occupation regulated in the Québec construction industry. Pertinent training and work experience acquired outside of Québec may be recognized in an apprenticeship. They might even allow direct access to the provincial qualification examination in order to obtain journeyperson status. Click here for more information.

  • Working outside of Québec

The CCQ recommends that Québec workers who wish to work in another Canadian province or in France consult directly the organizations responsible in the host region.

Transfers of insurance or retirement contributions

Construction workers who travel across Canada and the United States to work on different sites may combine all of their contributions in a single plan to obtain the best coverage.
